A very handsome tall antique French patinated bronze statue of a Greco-Roman warrior, circa 1890, by Émile Louis Picault (1833–1915).

This very dynamic bronze at almost three feet tall; it depicts a heroic warrior wearing a Gallic helmet mounted with a plume, in a contrapposto stance unsheathing his sword from its scabbard. The sculpture embodies the style of Academic art or French Romantic Nationalism of the late 1800s. The bronze is of impressive size and is very commanding visually, these large bronzes were often made for the French salon or a museum or as a teaching model.
The bronze is signed to the base "Picault", the front is also titled "Honor Patria" (Honor to the Fatherland). Condition is very good, this very elegant bronze is in good condition and is ready to grace your space.

Artist Biography
Émile Louis Picault (1833–1915) Émile Louis Picault was an exceptionally prolific and highly celebrated 19th-century French sculptor and medalist. Over his long and commercially successful career, he produced an abundant body of work totaling over 500 distinct sculptural models. He achieved widespread renown for his grand, idealized figures that celebrated classical heroism, national virtues, and detailed romantic narratives.
He debuted his work at the prestigious Paris Salon in 1863 and continued to exhibit his bronze reliefs, plasters, and statues there regularly until 1914
