Antique French Art Deco Bronze Figural Group / Statue, Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (1886-1947), 1930s. The bronze showing a whimsical scene of a pretty young girl and an inquisitive goose. The bronzed figures mounted on a white Carrara marble and variegated black marble plinth. The sculpture is signed in the marble "D. H. Chiparus" and is mounted with a brass dedication plaque to the front with the legend, "Souvenir de la Mutuelle Retraite, 28 Juin 1936."
D. H. Chiparus was a Romanian Art Deco sculptor who lived and worked in Paris and is hailed one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco period.
