A large antique Imlerial Russian twin handled silver cloisonne bowl, Pavel Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1898. Silver weight 24.5 oz (695 grams).
Ovchinnikov is recognized as one of Russia's most famous enamellers, he produced incredible objects to rival the work of Karl Faberge. His workshops were awarded the Russian Imperial warrant, and supplied many other crowned heads of Europe.
This large twin handle bowl is very finely enameled with a multi-colored floral design, each handle is skillfully modeled as a butterfly with leaves and flowers above. The base is raised on a repousse flared foot, hallmark for Pavel Ovchinnikov in cyrillic and dated 1898 with the assayer's mark for Anatoly Apollonovich Artsybashev.
Condition is good, some minor enamel loss..
Provenance; Part of a larger collection of fine Russian silver, passed through the same family of Russian descent since the very early 1900's.
