A very rare Mid Century Modern round table in the "Etruscan Spiral" pattern, by the celebrated designer's Philip and Kelvin Laverne, circa 1960.
While Philip and Kelvin LaVerne initially focused heavily on literal, historical figurative carvings during the late 1950s (such as the Chan or Festival series), by 1960 they transitioned into The Abstract Series. The Etruscan Spiral motif became one of their earliest and most celebrated breakthroughs, remaining in production across custom commissions throughout the 1960s.
This large round table is raised on a sculpted, solid fluted bronze base, the pewter tabletop has spirals and geometric lines that are deeply engraved directly onto the surface creating contrasting warm (gold/bronze) and cool (silver/pewter) tones. The lines mimic archaic Etruscan art, giving the modern piece an archaeological, time-worn depth.
Condition is excellent, the table is signed with an incised signature to the table edge rim, "Philip Kelvin LaVerne", this table is ready to grace your space.
Sotheby's sold such a table in their auction on June 11th 2026, lot # 596 for $61,440.
