A large & wonderful pair of antique French Porcelain de Paris Darte Frères hand-painted & gilded portrait vases, with scenes of dogs, and painted in the manner of Fragonard, circa 1810.
The vases of baluster shape with a gold ground and hand-painted with unusual panels of dogs (likely Brittany spaniels), one is seen rescuing a child after falling into the water with a toy boat, the other with a child & a dog fetching a hat from the water, the paintings are in the manner of Alexandre-Evariste Fragonard (1780-1850) who was a celebrated decorator at the Sevres factory.
Each vase having a gold ground with a wide flared rim and twin handles decorated with rosettes and acanthus leaf straps, the rear of the vases having rich deep colored purple ground with raised gilt decoration of a fountain, swags and garlands and birds.
The vases are raised on gilded socle bases.
