A large antique country house hunting portrait painting, circa 1750. The painting portraying a gentleman, (John Jeane 1708-1796) and his wife, posed in a rural setting. Mr. Jeane is depicted loading his rifle with his loyal hunting dogs at his feet and the days catch of three birds and a rabbit. John Jeane was the owner of Monkton House in rural Dorset, located on the Southwest coast of England. The painting is housed in the original gilded frame & brass plate engraved with; "John Jeane Monkton House 1706-1796". John Jeane is mentioned in a number of 18th century newpaper articles from the area, including the Sherborne Mercury. The painting is of large size and in good condition.
