"Nymphs in Woodland Landscape," Oil on Tempera by William C. Emerson (1865-1937), 1910. The vertical painting of a forest landscape scene with autumn foliage and several wood nymphs. Housed in the original frame, signed and dated lower right, and mounted with a brass name plaque.

Born in London, England, William Emerson was an architect and a painter of tonalist landscapes. He was active in Chicago and New Preston, Connecticut. He was a member of the New York Watercolor Club, Chicago Watercolor Club, Chicago Society of Artists, and the Westchester Art Institute and exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute.
