Antique tall French Art Nouveau cameo glass landscape vase by Daum Freres, Nancy, circa 1900.
This beautiful piece of cameo glass depicts a pastoral lake scene with large silhouetted trees in the foreground amidst bushes and grasses up against the waters edge, in the background are more scattered trees and distant mountains.
This large and elegant 14" tall cameo glass vase was produced by the celebrated Daum Freres glass workshops, located in Nancy France. The Daum brothers had created superlative art glass from the late 1800s, and along with Emile Galle in 1901 co-founded the Nancy-School of Art Nouveau design. When Emile Galle died in 1904 Daum became the dominant makers of French art glass and were recognized the world over.
This large cameo glass vase exemplifies the high quality work of Daum: overlaid with several layers of glass and wheel-carved and acid cut to reveal a tree filled landscape rising from a mottled orange ground. The trees are reflected in the water of the lake below, this tall vase rises from a circular foot with a tapered and flared body. The vase is signed in cameo to the base "Daum Nancy" with the cross of Lorraine, the base has a ground pontil mark.
This beautiful vase is is excellent condition and is ready to grace your space.
