Artist Biography:
Annibale Carracci was an Italian painter working in Bologna and later in Rome. Together with his brothers, Ludovico and Agostino, he was one of the founders of a leading trend in Baroque style, aspiring to the rebirth of classical monumentality with a new vital dynamism.
As a leading figure of the late 16th and early 17th centuries, he is often credited as a founding father of the Baroque movement, providing a "middle path" between the artificiality of Mannerism and the extreme, gritty realism of his contemporary, Caravaggio
