A very fine antique repousse work & engraved sterling silver gilt castle top cigar/cheroot case, Nathaniel Mills Birmingham 1840.
This very finely crafted silver case is made by the celebrated silversmith Nathaniel Mills. The case is engraved with scrolling foliate on both sides, one side with a repousse work image of Windsor Castle, the other with a corresponding image of Abbotsford House. The hinged top is engraved with an open cartouche and is free from an engraved monogram, the interior having the original lining.
The case has the stamp for Nathaniel Mills & the anchor stamp for Birmingham and the date letter "R" for the year 1840. The case is in excellent condition and the silver weight is 103 grams.

Provenance, from the private collection of a lady, acquired by family descent, Sandy, Oregon.
