( Sold) A good antique English walnut & brass bound and inlaid military campaign gateleg writing desk/box, from the Crimea War period, circa 1853.
The desk is finely inlaid with decorative brass inlay and also protectively bound in brass, each side the cabinet is fitted with an archetypical campaign brass recessed handle. The writing box opens and folds out to reveal a sloped writing surface fitted with the original blue velvet, below is a storage resevoir and above there is storage for pens and inkwells. The inside of the top is fitted with a correspondence pouch that locks into the top when closed or open. The writing slope is raised on four tapered legs, the front right is a gateleg that swings out to support the writing surface.
Condition is very good, no damage or restorations noted.
