Antique French Art Deco Neo-Classical Bronze Figural Group, Joseph Descomps (1872-1948), Circa 1930. This fine and large bronze figural group depicting Dionysos [Bacchus] and Ariadne. The two figures draped over a pedestal and holding the accoutrements of wine, Dionysos holding a ewer and goblet. The bronze raised on a black and white variegated marble plinth and inset with a bronze frieze depicting putti engaged in the grape harvest, the bronze signed "Joe Descomps" to the rear and in excellent condition.

Mssr. Descomps was also known as Joseph Cormier, he exhibited subjects at the Salon des Artistes Francais, circa 1880. After 1918 he became one of the major exponents of the Art Deco style and from 1930 onwards he had executed figures in the Neo-Classical style.
