A fine and diminutive antique mahogany Sheraton Revival mahogany and Hand-Painted "Cheveret" or ladies' table cabinet, circa 1890.

The cabinet having a stepped-back upper tier containing small stationary drawers, topped by a decorative arched pediment with hand-painted classical imagery of cherubs playing with garlands of flowers. The painting is very much in the style of the Swiss artist Angelica Kauffman (1741-1807), the drawers are painted with garlands of flowers and on the sides of the cabinet are painted with sheet music and musical instruments.
The table base is fitted with a single drawer with circular cast gilt brass handles, the drawer is painted with floral garlands and is flanked with hand-painted Neoclassical urns. The sides and long, gently tapered legs are also hand-painted with floral decoration.
Condition is very good, the structure is sturdy and robust, original finish and all of the painted decoration is intact, this very attractive table cabinet is ready to grace your space.

A Cheveret was popularized in England in the 18th/19th centuries, it featured elegant tapered square legs; providing a characteristic light, delicate silhouette. These diminutive stylish pieces of furniture were intended for a lady's parlor, bedroom, or morning room.
