A fine antique 19th century Persian Qajar period (1789-1925) glazed pottery mosaic tile group, circa 1880.
This large mosaic comprises four sizable tiles set in a stone frame, the glazed tiles depict a hunting scene. The scene features figures on horseback, with one figure, a prince reaching towards a mythical Huma bird (similar to a phoenix), which is a symbol of royalty and divine blessing in Persian culture. The scene also features deer and gazelle, the tiles having an border with a cobalt blue ground decorated with a floral and foliate design.
The tiles are raised where the figures and decoration is featured which was typical of this type of tilework from the 18th and 19th centuries. Condition is excellent, this striking Persian Qajar period tile group is ready to grace your space.
