An important oil on canvas painting by the celebrated equestrian artist, Harry Hall (1814-1882), of the racehorse "Lord Lyon", 1866.
Hall was the most important equestrian artist of his day and in particular of race horses. This is a portrait of the British thoroughbred racehorse "Lord Lyon", who at that time was only the third horse to win the Triple Crown in 1866; Epsom Derby, 2,000 Guineas Stakes and the St. Leger Stakes. To this day there have only been 15 horses to win The Triple Crown since it started in 1809!
The painting depicts Lord Lyon in a stable setting, the painting is signed lower left "Harry Hall 1866", the work is housed in the original gilded frame. The painting has been professionally relined, condition of the painting and frame is very good and ready to hang on your wall.
