A fine antique Italian Renaissance Revival deeply carved walnut hall bench, circa 1870.

The bench has wonderful carving, to the back is a carved crest rail with floral scrolling foliate, below is a central raised tablet surround by corresponding foliate carving. The arm supports are carved dolphins swimming through the waves, these carvings are substantial and of superior quality, below is a hinged lid to a storage chest area, with plentiful storage capacity.
The front of the chest area has a large carved panel with a grotesque of Pan to the center surrounded by profuse floral carving, at each end the bench has large carved acanthus leaf brackets, the bench is raised on large carved paw feet with scrolled brackets.

In Italy these chest-benches are referred to as a "Casspanca", this is a particularly fine example, condition is very good, this very attractive carved antique bench is ready to grace your space.
