A fine antique Italian carved & hand painted poly chrome walnut cassone cabinet, buffet, circa 1890.
This very elegant cabinet with a top boldly carved to the edge, below are three drawers carved with blind fretwork & turned pulls, the drawers are flanked by two carved acanthus leaf brackets & at each end of the cabinet is a carved winged cherub head.
The cabinet has four 'barley twist' poly chromed & bronzed columns with ornately carved capitals, the columns entwined with carved trailing ivory. There are three arched doors (each enclosing a shelf) that are finely hand painted with beautiful Renaissance maidens, one dancing maiden, two playing music & two reading poetry. The cabinet is raised on an ornately carved base with tall bracket feet carved with acanthus leaves, the original key is present, condition is excellent.
