A fine & rare antique American Aesthetic Movement gilded three panel room divider screen, with three original oil paintings, 1885, from the estate of J.D. Rockefeller, New York.
The three fold screen having gilt bronze gesso decoration in the Aesthetic taste, with a 'pagoda' shaped top to the central panel and corresponding decorfation to each end panel. Each panel is lavishly decorated with stylized geometric floral devices, the screen is joined with two hinged turned columns, the screen is raised on four sets of tripod legs.
Each panel is inset with an original oil painting on canvas, one depicting a pastoral scene with a farm fence, the central panel of a flowering shrub and the last panel with waves crashing on the cliffs. Under the backing the oil paintings have iron stretcher clips that are dated 1885, condition is remarkable all the gilding and gesso is in tact and all three paintings are in very good condition and were just lightly cleaned by a professional art conservator.
Provenance; The screen had been in J.D. Rockerfeller's estate at Kykuit, Mount Pleasant N.Y. It was gifted to a member of the household service & thence passed by descent.
