A remarkable early 17th century Upper Rhine hand-carved and Polychrome wooden Corpus Christi statue of Jesus Christ, German or Austrian, circa 1600.

A large German Baroque carved limewood figure of Christ crucified, it is very finely hand-carved and painted, some expected surface wear but significant remaining original paint, with some of the polychromy refreshed. The figure showing Christ crucified, his hands and feet with nail holes and his side pierced as according to scripture!
This rare and important devotional relic is of a large half life size at 36" tall, it can be affixed to the wall with a metal ring to the verso. 
Condition is very good.

 

 

The blood of Christ is detailed around his hands, chest, feet, and crown. His eyes are shut, long brown hair falling down his right shoulder. He is wearing a traditional dark shroud around his waist. There are details of a laceration under his right pectoral. This large depiction of Christ's crucifixion is in outstanding Antique condition.
