A good antique Georgian oak & mahogany Lancashire dresser & plate rack, circa 1790.
This style of cabinets are generically referred to as a "Welsh Dresser", and many were in fact made in Wales, this dresser is quintessentially from Lancashire, located in the Northwest of England.
Dressers of this period and type from Lancashire were usually made in oak and then cossbanded in mahogany, as this dresser is.
To the back is a large plate rack, with a wavy shaped cornice, with shelves below and twin crossbanded locking cupboard doors (inlaid with ebony and fruit wood oval shell designs) enlosing two shelves and each with a spice drawer below.
The dresser base with three large crossbanded drawers, the dresser is raised on turned baluster shaped legs with compressed bun feet.
Condition is very good indeed, this beautiful Georgian Lancashire dresser is ready to grace your home.
