A fine antique Georgian sterling silver twin handled soup tureen and cover by the Royal Gold and Silversmith Benjamin Laver, London, 1783.

This very elegant George III tureen was made by one of the leading late 18th century silversmiths, Benjamin Laver was a highly skilled 18th-century English silversmith and working jeweler, he studied under Thomas Heming, the principal royal goldsmith to King George III. Laver was active in London during the George III period and later became Royal goldsmith to the King himself. He is best recognized for crafting exceptional, high-quality neoclassical silverware.

This large tureen is an exemplary piece of Georgian silver by an important maker, having a domed lid with a 'laurel wreath' handle, the lid and base with gadrooned decoration. The oval shaped tureen having large ribbed handles, and is raised on a tall flared oval foot.
The tureen and lid have a full set of London hallmarks, with Benjamin Laver's mark and the date letter for 1783. Condition is remarkable, this very elegant antique silver tureen is ready to grace your space.
