A fine antique 17th century French Gothic carved oak lidded chest or coffer, dated 1679.

The chest was assembled in the mid 19th century with original carved panels from the 1600s. The 17th-century panels showcase the extravagant Gothic style, characterized by dense, quatrefoils and flame-like tracery (fenestrage), mimicking early Gothic windows.
The chest has a sloped hinged lid with three deeply carved panels, inside is a clean and aroma free area, providing ample storage.
The sides and front have original corresponding deeply carved panels, with a table to the top carved with the date of 1679.
This very attractive chest is made from solid dark oak, condition is excellent, the chest is sturdy and ready for use. The chest has just lovingly received a coat of wax polish in Bloomsbury's professional workshops. A beautiful piece of antique furniture to grace your space.
