A large & fine antique 19th century French giltwood Louis XV Rococo mirror, of superior quality, circa 1870.
The mirror having an shield shaped cartouche to the top, held by a pair of winged cherubs. The mirror being of cushion shape and to the center is a large rectangular beveled mirror, flanked on each side with a narrow angled rectangular mirror that is etched with stars. The frame with an ornate shell & acanthus leaf bracket to each corner, the body of the mirror frame is profusely decorated with flower & foliate designs, to the base is a neoclassical mask in a rococo cartouche, most likely representing Pan.
This very large mirror is in remarkable condition, retaining the original gilding all the mirrors are original, there are no obvious losses or repair of the gilded gesso decoration, condition is really very good indeed.
