A fine quality early 19th century antique French Empire mahogany marble top commode, with Neo-Classical ormolu mounts, circa 1810.
The commode is of the finest quality, the top is made of black & white variegated veined marble. The commode with four drawers, the top drawer with a large impressive gilt bronze lock escutcheon, featuring twin cupids with their bows drawn, with an eagle to the center nestled amongst laurel leaves. The three drawers below with circular gilt bronze pulls, the drawers are mounted with unusual and whimsical lock escutcheons with a pair of seated squirrels.
The drawers are flanked by a pair of circular columns with gilt bronze capitals and bases, above the columns are a pair of Neo-Classical gilt-bronze portraits, one of a Neo-Classical maiden the other of a Greco-Roman soldier. The commode is raised on block feet.
The commode is made of the finest quality figured mahogany, the ormolu mounts and pulls are also very finely cast and gilded. The drawers run smooth and straight, they are clean & aroma free and provide generous stotrage, condition is very good throughout, this elegant Empire commode is ready to grace your space.
