A very Fine antique French Empire gilt bronze statue clock, depicting Homer in the Ruins of Troy, by André-Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814), circa 1810.
This exquisite large scale example of an early 19th century French Empire patinated and fire gilt bronze ormolu, malachite marble clock, depicting the famous Greek poet Homer in the ruins of Troy, with a lyre and accompanied by his dog. Eight day silk suspension, the gilt dial signed "A. Ravrio" and having black Roman numerals, encircled with an engraved bronze bezel.
The statue stands on a malachite marble base and is inset with a gilt bronze bas relief panel of a Dionysian feast, with Dionysus (Greek god of wine) seated in a landscape and surrounded by male and female revellers. The clock is raised on a gilt bronze plinth with gilt bronze claw feet, the clock having an eight day time and strike mechanism, pendulum & key is present.
