A very good carved French oak gothic library bookcase/bibliotheque, circa 1880.
This very handsome oak bookcase does break down into many parts for ease of movement and is easily disassembled & assembled.
To the top are three large carved (removable) finials and a carved gallery cornice with carved gothic trefoil devices, to the center is a very finely carved panel of a medieval hunt scene.
Below are a pair of doors with the original period wavy glass & columns that are carved with a 'rope twist' design, at the top of the door is a magnificent carved crouching gargoyle. The doors enclose four adjustable shelves & twin adjustable drawers to the base (the bookcase can receive the very largest of books), the front of each door is carved with a linen fold panel and the cabinet is raised on a stepped plinth base.
