A very rare, large, antique French Louis XVI carved gilt-wood jardinière stand, modeled as a greyhound dog, circa 1780.
This very rare survivor is finely carved in pine, and gesso and water gilded with gold leaf, the stand has the original circular zinc liner, above the dog's head is a circular stand with a carved arcaded lunette shaped gallery with a carved acanthus leaf support.
The dog is very realistically carved and displays seated bolt upright with it's tail curled by its side, the animals rib-cage is also discernible carved to the statue, the dog is raised on a circular platform with four shaped pad feet.
The stand is in remarkable condition, almost all of the gilding is intact, and possesses a deep mellow patina, the stand is structurally sound and has not been altered or repaired, the original zinc liner is present.
