Antique Carved Anglo Indian Teak Wood Elephant Twin Tier Lamp Side Table 1900

A good antique late 19th century Anglo-Indian carved teak lamp or side table, circa 1900.

The table is very finely carved in relief with an elephant to the center flanked by a pair of carved circular devices and having a deep carved border of scrolling foliate. 
The table is raised on six heavily carved sculpted legs, the lower shelf tier is decorated with an Indian Peepal leaf design. In Indian culture, the Peepal leaf (Ficus religiosa) is a symbol of divinity and the cyclical nature of life and is revered across the major Indian religions including; Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Its iconic heart-shaped silhouette is incised into the lower table tier, which also acts as a stretcher to the six legs.
The table is sturdy, beautifully carved and in excellent antique condition and ready to grace your space.
