A fine antique 18th century marquetry inlaid walnut baroque commode, chest of drawers, Austria or Germany, circa 1760.
This fine 18th century commode is of serpentine shape and has a overhanging top which is inlaid with two panels with fruitwood scroll-work inlay and burl panels and to the center highly figured ash panels.
The chest having four drawers with inlaid and brass oval lock escutcheons and brass 'teardrop' handles, the sides of the chest having corresponding inlaid panels, the commode is raised on turned bun feet.
Condition of this very elegant antique commode is excellent, it is very sturdy, the drawers open and close with ease, they are aroma free and provide plenty of useful storage. This very attractive 18th century chest has just received a coat of wax in Bloomsbury's professional workshops, it has a rich and warm honey colored patina and is ready to grace your space.
