Antique Royal Doulton Lambeth Art Nouveau pottery stoneware whiskey jug with sterling silver mounts by George Betjemann & sons, London 1903.
This very stylish Art Nouveau stoneware whiskey jug is high-glazed in a deep cobalt blue and has tube-lined decoration of poppies and other organic sinuous decoration. The top is fitted a sterling silver stopper {with the original cork} connected to the handle with a chain and a silver cuff and pouring spout, the silver is hallmarked in tow places for the celebrated London silversmiths George Betjemann & Sons with the date letter for 1903. Betjemann & sons were well known for making high quality silver drinking accessories such as; liquor tantaluses, cocktail shakers, wine coolers and coasters and other fine silver objects..
The base has the impressed marks for Royal Doulton with a lion and Crown, this was the first year this mark was used from the previous 'Doulton Lambeth England' mark. The base also has two impressed decorator's marks, one most likely for the senior designer Minnie Webb and another undocumented assistant designer lower case 'nn'.
Condition is excellent, this very lovely whiskey jug is ready to receive your favorite liquor.
