A fine, elegant antique Edwardian Art Nouveau display cabinet vitrine, with elements of Sheraton Revival, mahogany with inlaid marquetry, by S. J. Waring of London and Liverpool, circa 1905.
This very fine cabinet is made of the highest quality mahogany and is exquisitely inlaid with satinwood marquetry inlay. The top having an inlaid dentil cornice, below is a graceful organic Art Nouveau floral frieze inlaid with satinwood in a leaning cursive style.
The cabinet with a single locking door (key is present) with checkered inlay, the door is astragal glazed with a large oval design with a four pointed star shape to the interior. The door is flanked with curved glass panels enclosing three shelves, the interior retains the original pale gold satin fabric.
The base is also inlaid with satinwood panels and is fitted with two drawers, which have turned brass pulls, the cabinet is raised on six turned tapered legs.
Made by one of the most renowned cabinet makers of London and Liverpool formed early in the 19th century: S.J. Waring (Samuel James Waring & Sons). In 1897 Waring had merged with Gillows of Lancaster, this cabinet is fitted with the original metal & enamel tag: "Warings (Waring & Gillow) by Special Appointment to His Majesty the King". The King at this time was Edward VII, who reigned from 1901-1910.
