A very stylish and elegant inlaid Ottoman/Arabic dowry chest, Damascus work, circa 1860.
This very beautiful antique chest has a serpentine shaped white marble top, with a carved edge of acanthus leaves. The walnut body is extravagantly inlaid with Mother-of Pearl decoration, the locking drop front (key present) has floral inlay and the edge of the door is inlaid with a frieze of ebony and bone. The sides of the chest have an incised carved design with bone inlaid petals, the chest is raised upon bracket feet that are inlaid with geometric Mother-of -Pearl inlay.
Very often these chests are from the early to mid 20th century, this one is rare as it is much earlier, from the mid to late 1800s. Condition is good, this very lovely chest is ready to grace your space.
