A rare antique 19th century American Folk Art gilded and painted cast and hand-forged iron optometrist trade sign, New York circa 1880.

American trade signs of this nature were popular in the late 18th and 19th centuries featuring hand-painted symbols that were placed outside of mercantile stores to represent the specific trade of the owner.
This large sign has the original hang-forged hanging iron rod, allowing the sign to be attached to the building The sign is made of cast-iron and is modeled as a pair of giant spectacles, having gilded rims and nose rest, the lenses with the original dark green paint.
Condition is excellent, this rare antique American trade sign is ready to be hung on your wall and grace your space.
