Antique Aesthetic Movement Doulton Lambeth Hannah Barlow Stoneware Jug Sheep, 1873

A charming Antique Doulton Lambeth Aesthetic Movement stoneware jug, decorated by the celebrated Hannah Barlow, signed and dated 1876.
Hannah Barlow one of the most recognized artists associated with the Doulton studio, she was the first female artist employed by the Doulton Lambeth studio in 1871, her sister Florence later joined the pottery in 1873. 

This lovely jug was created during the English Aesthetic Movement hand crafted and features Barlow's distinctive incised depiction of grazing sheep by the technique of Sgraffito, providing a highly realistic image of the sheep. The warm salt-glazed stoneware body is decorated with brown and blue glazed foliate borders, with circular panels of sheep with white enameled 'jeweled' borders . Hannah Barlow's animal studies are highly sought after amongst collectors of British art pottery.
