A fine antique Italian Renaissance Revival carved ebonized walnut high-back bench, settle, circa 1880.
    
The settle's high-back is very finely carved with a stepped dentil cornice to the top and a carved gallery of intertwined circular decoration, each circle with a carved rosette. At each end is a carved bust of a Neoclassical maiden and male bust above an acanthus leaf corbel bracket, with two more carved brackets to the center. The back is very finely carved with foliate panels and carved masks, at each side are full length carved panels depicting sinuously carved dragons. The bench seat has a lift up lid enclosing lots of storage, which is clean and aroma free, the bench arms are carved as scrolled brackets with substantial lion's heads.
    The base is carved with corresponding acanthus leaf brackets and three carved panels with rosettes, foliate and shell carving, the base with a carved egg & dart skirt and is raised on substantial carved lion's paw feet.
    The bench is made from ebonized walnut and is in excellent antique condition, and has just received a coat of beeswax polish from in Bloomsbury's professional workshops.
