Antique 19th C Ottoman Persian Islamic Qajar Period Iznik Pottery Bottle Vase

A good antique 19th century Iznik style Ottoman Persian Qajar period pottery bottle vase, circa 1850.

The ivory colored fritware ground with under-glazed brightly colored hand-painted brightly colored polychrome enamels. The form has a classic globular teardrop shaped body rising to a long tapered slender cylindrical neck.
The vase is hand decorated with naturalistic motifs of gazelles and traditional vibrantly colored floral designs with black line-work outlines.
These bottles were used for wine and beverage decanters but also for sprinkling fragrant rosewater to welcome guests. In Persian folk lore these bottle vases were known is Farsi as "Ashkdan", roughly translating as tear catchers, for partners to collect their tears whilst waiting for their husbands to return from military campaigns. This vase is in very good antique condition, no damage or repair and is ready to grace your space.
