A good antique Georgian paneled oak coffer mule chest, circa 1760.
The lift up lid with a thumb molded edge, the top locks and there is the original brass oval escutcheon to the front of the chest with three arched panels below. The lift up lid encloses a generous amount of clean and aroma free storage, the base of the chest is fitted with two drawers, each with twin brass bale handles and oval brass lock escutcheons.
The front edges of the chest are canted to give the impression of columns, the chest is raised on bracket feet.
The mule chest is in very good original condition, the chest has just been lovingly waxed in Bloomsbury's professional workshops and has a warm dark honey colored patina, this lovely mid 18th century chest is ready to grace your space.
Such chests were called mule chests as the drawers to the base were often used to store slipper type footwear, which were referred to as "mules".
