A fine and rare, ancient Islamic Seljuk period bronze bird statue, pomander, circa 1150, possibly Persia or Central Asia.
The bird is finely modeled and is engraved and has pierced work, such figures were used as pomanders or air fresheners and were filled with fragrant or perfumed flower petals. The bird is freestanding but is also mounted to a lacquered block stand, well patinated and in very good condition. From a prestigious Middle East collection.
