A rare and intact ancient Persian 12th/13th Islamic vessel/jug, from Khorasan. The vessel with a deep blue glaze and having a band of incised Islamic calligraphy to the top, the baluster shaped body decorated with incised 'teardrop' motifs, the jug having a short spout and arched handle surmounted with a zoomorphic figure. The vessel having a raised unglazed foot.
The ewer is in remarkable condition, totally intact, many of these vessels are reassembled from fragments, or have significant restoration. A fine & rare 12th/13th century ancient Persian Islamic vessel.
A near identical vessel is on display in the Louvre's collection and can be seen online through the museum's website, the Louvre's reference number for this item is Inv. No. MAO 1232
