19th Century Belgian Realist Pastoral Oil Canvas Landscape Painting Ram Sheep & Goat

A fine 19th century antique realist oil on Canvas painting circa 1870, a pastoral landscape of a ram with sheep, by Belgian artist Laurent De Beul (1841-1872).

This very attractive painting by De Beul, who was a very accomplished painter of pastoral scenes, in particular French landscapes with sheep, depicts a powerful ram standing in a farm landscape. Surrounding the ram are four ewes laying in the grass and one solitary goat, there are two further sheep to the background.
To the lower right are two logs, the painting is signed in red "Lauren De Beul" on the upper log, the are also annotations to the verso, including an auction sale date in white chalk.
The painting is housed in the original gilded gesso frame, condition is very good, an attractive painting by a well listed and accomplished 19th century artist, is ready to hang on your wall.

Artist Biography
Laurent De Beul (1841–1872) was a 19th-century Belgian painter known primarily for his realistic rural landscapes, pastoral scenes, and animal paintings featuring sheep, rams, and shepherds.
Born in Dendermonde (Termonde), Belgium, Laurent was the eldest of ten children born to Édouard Conrad De Beul and Florentine Jeanne Goethals. His father was a picture/art dealer, providing early exposure to the art market. Laurent was the trailblazer for what became a well-known family of painters. He personally taught his younger brother, Henri De Beul (1845–1900). Another younger brother, Frans De Beul (1849–1919), also went on to become a celebrated animalier and pastoral painter.
Despite his short life, Laurent De Beul established a strong reputation, migrating his workspace toward Brussels and its surrounding communes. Toward the end of the French Second Empire, he successfully expanded his presence beyond Belgium into France, regularly submitting works to prominent regional French salons
His body of work would be described as being in the realist and romantic traditions of the Belgian school, focusing heavily on nature, pastoral farm life, landscapes with flocks of sheep, and occasional military or religious subjects.  During his short active career, he exhibited his works in both Belgium and France.
