A fine antique Russian Imperial silver & cloisonne kovsh, Pavel Akimov Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1896.
Ovcinnikov is recognized as one of Russia's most famous enamellers, he produced incredible objects to rival the work of Karl Faberge. His workshops were awarded the Russian Imperial warrant, and supplied many other crowned heads of Europe.
The kovsh of traditional form with a hook shape handle, the kovsh decorated with stylized multi-color floral & foliate motifs against a silver ground, the handle similarly decorated. The base is stamped with Ovchinnikov's mark in cyrillic, the date of 1986, the assayer's mark and the Russian Imperial warrant stamp and the city mark of Moscow. Silver weight is 69 gram.
Condition is very good indeed, no damage or restoration noted.
Provenance; Part of a larger collection of fine Russian silver, passed through the same family of Russian descent since the very early 1900's.
