An extremely rare & important Chinese Imperial parcel gilt Imperial helmet, Qianlong period, circa 1750. The helmet is skillfully cast into a thin iron dome shape, the top of the helmet having a turned copper gilt finial and below a outwardly flared lappet shaped engraved crown above a pierced work dome, engraved with a dragon and set with enamel cabochons. The body of the helmet having two bands of Lantsa/Sanskrit characters, the front of the helmet is decorated with a vertical engraved and pierced work band also set with enamel cabochons. The brim of the helmet also in parcel gilt and finely engraved and pierced, the helmet having holes around the base where silk cloth padding would have been attached. This helmet would have belonged to a nobleman of the Imperial court or a very high ranking officer.
