A very high quality George III mahogany chest on chest/tallboy, circa 1780. This chest on chest in two parts, the top having a stepped cornice with a dentil frieze below, above the drawers is a deeply carved 'blind' fretwork band on three sides. The top having two short over three long graduated drawers, each drawer is cockbeaded and retains the original brass handle and brass key escutcheon, the sides of the top section having canted and reeded corners.
The base section having three long graduated drawers again with original brass hardware and the chest is raised on ogee bracket feet.
This chest is a cut above the norm, with the hallmarks of a good Georgian London workshop, incorporating the extras such as the dentil cornice, canted and reeded sides, blind fretwork and ogee brackets.
Condition is very good, finest Cuban mahogany, good color and finish, drawers run smooth and true. An excellent Georgian mahogany chest on chest, circa 1780.
