(Sold) A good antique carved oak Renaissance Revival oak coffer, chest, window seat, circa 1880.
The three paneled lid having hand-forged iron strap hinges, enclosing a storage reservoir below. The front of the coffer having a carved arcaded frieze which is punctuated with four carved acanthus leaf corbel brackets, the chest front having three corresponding fielded panels with carved borders. At each end of the chest is a carved column, the coffer has a carved skirt and is raised on stile feet.
Condition is very good indeed, the chest with a warm mellow color and of pegged & joined construction is very robust with ample storage, it would make a great window seat or a seat at the end of a bed and would look great anywhere else in one's home.
