Handmade paper, two pieces of thin ivory laid Japanese paper which were put into the press at the same time and have stuck together.
Max Pollak selected a view from above Baker Beach in San Francisco to work up this color aquatint image of the Golden Gate Bridge as it spans over the Golden Gate to Marin County in the distance.
The cypress trees are bent to the east as a result of succumbing to the almost constant winds coming off the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Pollak shows a ship about to enter San Francisco Bay after its long voyage from the Pacific Rim, a device he often would use to give the viewer a sense of scale for the composition, juxtaposing a figure or human scale object against the landscape.
