Pair Antique Italian Maiolica Pottery Albarelli Medicine Apothecary Jars, Circa 1650

A rare pair of antique Italian maiolica (majolica) berrettino albarelli or apothecary jars, from the city of Faenza Italy, Circa 1650.

Each albarello of waisted form and having a pale blue ground, inscribed in Latin "SEM:DI:IVSQV" and "SEM:D:AMEOS" within painted labels decorated with flowers and foliage & picked out in yellow and ochre, each decorated with butterflies and other scattered insects, the first with two fighting cockerels.

Both jars also decorated with grand architecture to the rear, condition is very good indeed, a few minor glaze abrasions but otherwise in remarkably good condition.
