A large and fine Islamic Mamluk Revival silver inlaid copper tray, circa 1880.
The tray generically referred to as Cairoware is earlier than most and also of very fine quality, the tray likely made in Damascus. The tray's border having four bands of inlaid silver calligraphy in Naskh script and punctuated with circular silver inlaid geometric devices joined with meandering silver inlaid ribbons. To the center of the tray is an engraved ground with a large inlaid silver inscription in corresponding Naskh script, engraved to the middle of the tray is a star of David with inlaid silver Arabesque.
Condition is excellent.
