A very large & rare antique late 19th century Berlin (K.P.M.) Porcelain Plaque, "Voices of Fairyland", circa 1890.
This very large plaque after the painting by Cuno von Bodenhausen (German, 1852-1931), a most unusual fantasy subject which received much press attention when it was exhibited in Germany in 1883. The painting represents a Cinderella type figure who was maltreated by her family and ran away to the forest only to be awoken by the sounds of fairies, she is portrayed seated on a hillside with her hand raised to her ear, as an owl lifts its wings in flight. The plaque is signed lower right "F. Greiner" (one of KPMs lead painters) impressed "K.P.M." with scepter mark. The plaque is housed in the original gilded gesso frame, both the plaque and frame are in excellent condition.
The last image shows the painting included in a book titled "Famous Paintings"  documenting figurative paintings from the late 19th century.
