A fine antique Italian Renaissance style carved, gilded and polychromed cassone chest, circa 1820.
The cassone having a domed top hinged lid carved with a neoclassical flowering urn, enclosing a generous storage area below. The front of the chest has an original hand-painted scene of a monarch being paraded through a village pulled by a pair of horses, with figures to the foreground including two maidens and a courtier reading a proclamation. To each side of the front panel is a ribbed column with a carved & gilded Corinthian capital, the sides of the cassone having gesso and polychromed carved armorials, the chest is raised on carved paw feet.
The chest is in very good antique condition and is ready to grace your home.
