Pair of Ancient Greek Gold Sphinx Earrings, Helenistic Period, circa 3rd-2nd Century BCE. The earrings each in the form of a seated sphinx on a trapezoidal plinth, both sphinxes mounted with a cabochon emerald. Each wing is upraised and feathers are finely simulated with gold granulation. Each earring most likely made of 22 karat gold, total weight approximately 12 grams and each earring measuring 4 cm tall X 2.5 cm wide.

Provenance
The earrings were purchased from the well respected Carlbach Gallery of Madison Avenue, New York, in 1963. The original sales invoice and description will accompany the earrings. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a pair of investment-quality earrings from Antiquity and supported with excellently documented provenance.
